Phil Chan is the co-founder of Final Bow For Yellowface, along with Georgina Pazcoguin.

Final Bow for Yellowface is a movement created by Chan with the primary goal of eliminating racist Asian stereotypes in ballet. Since launching its pledge to end yellowface on the ballet stage in 2017, almost every major American ballet company has signed the pledge and many international companies (over 70 in total). Final Bow for Yellowface was cited in the Paris Opera’s diversity report as a contributing factor in their decision to climate blackface and yellowface from their stages.

Phil has consulted with performing arts groups nationwide on how to how to maintain the integrity of works from the classical Western canon while updating outdated representations of Asians.

Phil received the 2024 Dance Advocate Award from Dance/NYC for his transformative work.

Phil is also President and a founding member of the Gold Standard Arts Foundation, which supports Asian creatives working in the field of dance. He has championed commissions for Asian American artists in multiple disciplines collaborating in dance, the 10,000 Dreams Choreography Festival, both as a film festival and in-person at venues like the Kennedy Center.
